A Use for Technology in the Classroom

Technology can have many different uses within the classroom. One example that we saw in class today was the business class of a high school teacher. He used a computer simulator/game to allow the students to create their own corporations and gain an understanding of business in a capitalistic society. Allowing students to make decisions and see the results enabled them to gain an authentic understanding of how businesses run. With the right tools this could be done in many other subjects as well.

  2. Great ideas and nice reflection. Learning-by-doing is generally considered the most effective way to learn. The Internet and a variety of emerging communication, visualization, and simulation technologies now make it possible to offer students authentic learning experiences ranging from experimentation to real-world problem solving. This white paper explores what constitutes authentic learning, how technology supports it, what makes it effective, and why it is important. (Oblinger, D. G., 2007)
